MySpace Scammers Brought To Justice
Two Long Island men have been accused of trying to rip off [MySpace.com] by developing [code that reveals users identities](http://www.amny.com/news/local/crime/ny-bc-ny--myspacehacking0226feb26,0,4511874.story?coll=am-topheadlines). Shaun Harrison, 19, and Saverio Mondelli, 20, made a deal in which two counts of attempted extortion and another illegal computer access count were dropped, leaving the defendants three-year probationary terms. amNY reports that the duo demanded $150,000 as a consulting fee from MySpace and had been offering the code as a service on their own Web site for $29.95. The social networking site purports to offer anonymity, but Harrison and Mondelli were able to obtain [users email addresses](http://news.com.com/Teens+arrested+in+alleged+MySpace+extortion+scam/2100-1030_3-6077455.html) and Internet protocol addresses.
Their plea bargain restricts their access to computers, limits them to one e-mail address each, commits them to 160 hours of community service and compels them to pay MySpace $13,500 in restitution. Should they fail to meet any of these requirements, they could face jail time. The guys attorney said that they will go on to college and continue to be creative and not transgress the law. Thats nice.
