RUX PARTY
Carl Hancock Rux just released his most accessible album to date and is celebrating with a release party at Joe's Pub. Good Bread Alley, his third foray into music, is bluesy, cultural commentary imbued with the New York native's heady poetic sensibility. He moans, wails and whispers through the album, which tends toward introspective but often explodes with energy. Rux's cover of Bill Withers' "I Can't Write Left Handed," an oblique critique of the Vietnam War sears in its exacting grasp of the post-9/11 landscape. Expect a piercing performance and appearances by frequent collaborators Helga Davis and Marcelle Lashley. Rux is wrapping up a novel and has no future shows scheduled in the tri-state area, so this is a rare opportunity to catch him in his post-modern rockstar persona.
